ADV MANGA
ADV Manga was the manga publishing division of A.D. Vision Holdings, Inc., launched in 2003. Promising a massive catalogue of licenses upon launching, ADV Manga failed to deliver, ultimately releasing only a small fraction of what was promised. ADV ceased all operations in Sept. 2009.
ANIMATE USA
In April 2010, Animate USA announced that it would be translating and releasing manga series published by Libre direct-to-Kindle. They stopped localizing manga in 2012, when Animate and Libre partnered with Viz Media to form SuBLime. Animate International replaced Animate USA in November 2020.
BROCCOLI BOOKS
BOYSENBERRY
Broccoli Books was a North American subsidiary of Broccoli International, which operated from mid-2003 until ceasing operations in December 2008. Boysenberry was their BL imprint launched in 2007.
CMX MANGA
CMX Manga was an imprint of DC Comics, launched in 2004. While CMX did not publish explicitly BL manga, some series were created by prominent BL mangaka or published in well-known BL and BL-adjacent shojo/josei magazines. CMX was discontinued in July 2010.
DIGITAL MANGA
Digital Manga, Inc. (DMI) was founded in 2003. Initially working with bigger companies, like Dark Horse, Digital Manga Publishing was established in 2004, as a joint partnership with Penguin Group USA. Due to several controversies and staffing shortages, the company is slow to release new series, and most prior licenses have lapsed.
DRAMAQUEEN
DramaQueen, LLC launched in 2005 and began publishing BL manga that July. While the company never formally shut down, they have not published new works or updated their site since 2011.

KITTY MEDIA
Kitty Media launched in 1997 with the founding of Media Blasters, focused on releasing pornographic anime in North America, but began publishing manga in 2004. They announced in 2007 that they would only publish BL manga from now on. In 2017, Kitty Media was acquired by Fakku until 2023, when it reverted back to Media Blasters.
