Time Magazine reported, in February 2004, that DC Comics would be establishing a manga imprint called CMX later that year.1

DC Comics formally announced the new imprint in June with a press release, revealing their new licenses, staff, and release dates.2

While not a publisher of yaoi/boys’ love manga, many of the titles licensed were shojo or josei titles created by prominent boys’ love creators or published in shojo magazines that also serialized boys’ love manga. President and Publisher of DC Comics, Paul Levitz, stated in the press release, “New readers, particularly girls and women, have rushed to embrace new talent from abroad, which we’re excited to bring to American audiences as part of DC Comics’ commitment to publishing diverse and exciting works from around the world.” CMX Manga published their first titles in October 2004.

With the 2008 global financial crisis, many publishers began facing new challenges in publishing manga, leading many to shut down. DC Comics’ CMX manga imprint was no exception, unfortunately, and ceased publishing new titles as of July 2010.3
